The theme of being lifted in Scripture speaks of God’s incredible work of grace in redeeming
humanity and elevating us to a new identity in Christ. Romans 5:8 reminds us of the
foundation of this lifting: “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were
yet sinners, Christ died for us.” God chose to reveal His love not after we had earned it, but
when we were undeserving. His decision to be the God of love was not an afterthought, but
His eternal purpose. Through Christ, we are not only forgiven but also raised to a heavenly
position of authority, dignity, and eternal hope.
God’s lifting begins with transformation. As Psalm 1:1 highlights, the blessed life avoids
ungodly influence and instead delights in God’s Word. We are changed when we read,
meditate on, and obey the Scriptures. Fellowship with God renews our minds and reorients
our lives, so that we no longer walk in the patterns of sin but in righteousness. Philippians
2:9 declares that Christ has been exalted above every name, and by being joined to Him, we
share in His lifted status. Our transformation is not a mere moral adjustment but a total
re-creation in Christ, seated with Him in heavenly places where no power of darkness can
oppress us.
Central to this lifting is God’s unfathomable love. We cannot measure the love of God, for it
surpasses human knowledge and imagination. His love is not passive but active, He
demonstrated it in Christ’s sacrifice. He does not delight in the death of a sinner but desires
that all would come to repentance and life. This truth should anchor our identity: we are not
condemned but chosen, forgiven, and loved. When we grasp this, our hearts are filled with
gratitude, and our lives reflect His kindness. Indeed, God’s ultimate purpose is to display His
grace, and He desires to use us as trophies of His mercy, living testimonies of His goodness.
Why did God save us? It was not because He lacked anything in heaven or out of boredom.
Rather, His purpose stretches into eternity: “to show the immeasurable riches of his grace in
kindness toward us in Christ Jesus” (Ephesians 2:7). As Colossians 1:27 reveals, Christ in us
is the hope of glory. God lifted us so that, in the ages to come, our lives would continually
display the wonder of His grace. We are His “display cases” for kindness, proof to the world
that He is a God of love and mercy. This perspective helps us to remain mindful of our
identity and to walk worthy of the calling we have received.
Being lifted in Christ calls us to a life of responsibility and worship. 1 Peter 2:9 reminds us
that we are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, called to proclaim His praises. 2 Peter
3:1–11 also exhorts us to live holy and godly lives, anticipating the day of the Lord. Since
God has elevated us, we must live as His ambassadors, grateful that He has not condemned
us but instead given us eternal hope. This gratitude should lead us into joyful obedience,
serving God with humility and reverence.
God’s lifting is not just about personal blessing; it is about witness. Through our lives, others
see the evidence of God’s love and kindness. When we walk in joy, peace, and obedience,
we declare to the world that God is good. Our testimonies serve as powerful displays of His
grace, pointing people to the Savior. By living in the reality of our eternal position, we
magnify Christ and inspire others to seek the same lifting that comes only through Him.
To be lifted is to be drawn from sin, death, and condemnation into the glorious life of grace
in Christ. It is to be transformed by God’s Word, seated with Christ in heavenly places, and
made a living witness of His immeasurable kindness. We are trophies of grace, not because
of anything we have done, but because of God’s eternal purpose to reveal His love through
us. As we embrace this lifted identity, let us live with gratitude, holiness, and joy,
proclaiming His goodness in every sphere of life. Truly, to be lifted in Christ is to be secured
forever in the love of God, displaying His glory for all eternity.
