Godly Relationships

Godly Relationships Psalm 1:1

God wants you blessed as His child. Consequently, His desire is to see you form and keep godly relationships. This desire is clearly captured in Psalm1:1 – “Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.”  The relationship that is approved of God is the one established with His saints. As we can see in Psalm 1:1, other relationships will create friction with God and bring curses. Unapproved relationships are signals of disobedience. It is inconceivable to work against God and remain blessed. You must keep Him on your side to overcome the troubles of life- Romans 8:37. You must avoid unholy alliances and relationships. Worldly relationships bring pollution and contaminations. Ungodly relationships are called the unfruitful works of darkness and God clearly wants His child to avoid them – Ephesians 5:11.

Who is the ungodly? Who is the sinner?  Who is the scornful?  Who is a saint?  The ungodly is canal and worldly. He finds it very hard to fully obey God’s instructions. He selectively determines which of God’s word to obey and willfully discards those he considers “old-fashioned and inappropriate.” He is not driven by the will and desires of God. The sinner wholeheartedly belongs to the devil – John 8:44. He has no relationship with Jesus. He is completely outside the purpose of God. He is a total stranger to God’s kingdom and its agenda. The scornful is proud and arrogant. He despises God’s people and sees nothing good in what they do. The scornful says in his heart that there is no God. He believes nothing of God’s words – Psalm 14:1, Psalm 10:4. The saint is a true child of God. He is totally dead to sin and completely hooked to Jesus. He is fully surrendered to God’ will – Galatians 2:20-21. The desire of the saint is to please God at all times.

You must do whatever it takes to remain the saint of God. The stating point, however, is to avoid any association that will create a strain in your relationship with God – Isaiah 59:1-2. You must flock with Christ-minded people. You must avoid the company of the ungodly, the sinners and the scornful. As a true saint, your conversations, actions, dressing, work ethics, testimonies etc must be Christ-centered. You must clearly stand out as a child of God. You must indeed be peculiar and different. You must reflect the praises and Glory of God. You cannot be like them otherwise you will become an object of mockery – 1 Peter 2:9 – 12.

The ungodly, sinners and the scornful are not friends of God. You are precious to God; He delights in your prosperity. He does not want you corrupted and polluted in any form – 1 Corinthians 15.33. You must remain strong in the Lord to avoid the traps of the enemies – Ephesians 6:10-11. The enemy comes with baits to deceive but underneath is the unseen hook to capture the spiritually feeble. You must be spiritually alive to identify the baits of the enemy. The enemy comes very subtly dangling the carrots of half-truths by twisting the word of God and working through: the lust of the eyes, the lust of the flesh and the pride of life. Romans 12:1-2 tell us how to overcome the enemy: “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. You are to remain the light and salt that God has made you. You are a life changer and nothing must take your position in the Lord. God bless you.
